No. We Care is still your local shelter, right here at 1345 Charter Oak Avenue in St. Helena, caring for the same cats with the same staff, volunteers, and fosters. The only change is our name: We Care Animal Rescue is now The Jackson Galaxy Project. We’re the same nonprofit with the same tax ID (EIN 94-2864103), and every gift still stays here to support the animals in our care. The work this community has built since 1982 is the foundation for everything ahead, and we’re grateful you’re part of it.
Jackson Galaxy is one of the world’s best-known cat behavior and wellness experts, and he has spent more than 30 years helping cats and the people who love them. Millions of viewers know him as the host and executive producer of Animal Planet’s long-running hit series My Cat from Hell, where he showed families how understanding a cat’s needs can turn even the toughest cases around. He’s also a two-time New York Times best-selling author, known for Cat Daddy, Catification, and Total Cat Mojo.
Jackson’s work started where ours does: in an animal shelter. He spent about a decade working with cats at a shelter in Boulder, Colorado, before bringing that experience to a global audience. Through The Jackson Galaxy Project, he has worked with shelters and rescue groups nationwide to improve care for cats and help more of them find homes.
Now he’s bringing that work home to St. Helena. As board chair of The Jackson Galaxy Project, Jackson will help make our shelter a national model for cat care that other organizations can learn from, and local supporters will have chances to meet him through trainings, classes, and events.
Yes. The tax ID and mailing address are the same, and every gift directly supports the animals in our care. Gifts remain tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, and you’ll receive a receipt as always. Checks can be made payable to We Care Animal Rescue or The Jackson Galaxy Project as we transition to the new name (same tax ID number).
No. Our biggest priority is to find homes for the animals in our care and improve their living conditions while they’re with us. There are a lot of exciting improvements ahead for the pets in our care and the ones we will care for in the future.
Yes! There won’t be any changes for existing volunteers and fosters and we’ll be recruiting lots more helpers as we expand our operations.
We’ve expanded the hours to 9 am to 5 pm daily to provide more opportunities for people to adopt and foster. After 3 pm, you’ll need to make a same-day appointment as we work to increase staffing to accommodate afternoon and evening adoptions.
Yes! There will be a variety of ways to meet Jackson in person, including training and classes for cat guardians. Sign up for our newsletter to receive updates and announcements.
We Care Animal Rescue is becoming the Jackson Galaxy Project. With Jackson Galaxy as board president, we are building and teaching a truly cat-centric model of animal welfare, starting here in St. Helena. We are the same 501(c)(3) (Tax ID 94-2864103), so every gift to We Care supports this work.
We are open seven days a week from 9AM to 3 PM, walk-ins welcome!
