About Us
Our Mission
Since 1982, We Care Animal Rescue has been committed to improving the quality of life for companion animals by providing shelter, compassionate care and community resources.
As a limited admission shelter, we never euthanize our residents due to concerns about housing space or extended stay. While our goal is for each animal to be adopted into a loving home, we are committed to lifelong care if necessary, and only consider euthanasia when an animal’s quality of life is extremely poor and all other options are exhausted.
Our Causes
What We Do
At We Care Animal Rescue, our work centers around providing life-saving care, supporting members of the community facing behavioral challenges or monetary concerns, and offering animal welfare resources to our community.
While many rescues have the capacity to care for healthy, young animals with no medical needs, few have the staff and flexible space to work with cats and dogs that have advanced medical needs. That’s where we saw a unique need in our community, and we create space not just for easily adoptable cats and dogs, but also for animals who are on long-term medications and may have a long stay in the shelter while waiting for their perfect forever home.
As they would in a family home, animals at our shelter receive medical assistance, care, enrichment, and so much more.
Medical Assistance
Caring for your pet can be hard. We’re here to help by offering spay, neuter, vaccination and microchipping assistance, alongside reduced fees and emergency grants for families in need. Please note at this time we are only able to offer assistance to St. Helena residents. Contact us for more information>>
Rescue and Rehoming
Many of the animals in our care need a little special care due to age, illness or temperament. We welcome animals on long term medication or special diets, and place them with unicorn adopters for their golden years. Visit us during our open hours>>
Care and Enrichment
Our hardworking team of shelter staff and volunteers provide a healthy and engaging environment to our 70+ shelter animals. Whether they’re here for a week or a year or more, our staff ensure a comfortable stay.
Intake and Adoption
Our shelter residents often come from local municipal shelters and homes where their owners are facing hardships and can no longer care for them. Communal living, along with an expert staff, provide them with the second chance they deserve to find a home. Adopt a pet>>
Food Distribution
When Napa County residents are struggling to afford food for their pets, we provide bags of dry food and cans of wet food to anyone in need. Frequently, we give food and supplies to senior citizens, allowing them to keep their pets at home instead of surrendering them to a shelter. We also support community members who distribute food to feral cats in the region. Contact us for assistance>>
Community Education and Events
We respond to information requests on cat behavior and training methods, queries about feral cat care, questions about other animal resources in the area, and many messages about lost and missing pets. We also offer educational programming for community groups and schools which features shelter tours and presentations on responsible pet care. See our upcoming events>>
